Getting started

New to Milemates?

How do I create an account?
Download the Milemates app from the App Store, tap "Get started," enter your phone number, and verify with the 6-digit SMS code. Then add your name, photo, and home city — takes about 2 minutes.
Is Milemates free to use?
Yes — the app is completely free. Milemates does not charge fees or take a cut of any cost-sharing. Fuel cost contributions are arranged directly between riders and drivers at whatever amount they agree on.
What cities does Milemates support?
We launched in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Additional cities are on the roadmap — sign up to be notified when we expand to your area.
Do I need to be 18 to use Milemates?
Yes. Milemates is for adults only (18+). You confirm your age at signup. Accounts found to belong to minors will be removed.

Posting & finding rides

How do I post a ride as a driver?
From the home screen tap "Post a ride," enter your pickup city, destination, date, time, and number of available seats. Riders in your area will see your listing and can request a seat.
How do I request a seat as a rider?
Browse listings on the home screen, tap one that matches your route, and tap "Request a seat." The driver will accept or decline. Once accepted, you can chat to confirm pickup details.
What is the Air Travel Companion feature?
If you're flying internationally (especially routes like HYD, MAA, BOM, or DEL to DFW), you can find other Milemates members on the same flight to travel with. Great for parents, first-time international travelers, or anyone who'd prefer company on a long haul.
Can I cancel a ride after accepting?
Yes, but please do so as early as possible so the other person can make alternate plans. Repeated last-minute cancellations may affect your rating.

Staying safe on Milemates

How do I share my location with an emergency contact?
During an active trip, open the Live Trip screen and tap "Share with Emergency Contact." This sends an SMS to your saved emergency contact with your current GPS location and trip details.
How do I report a member?
You can report a member from their profile or after a trip. You can also email us at support@milemates.app with details. We review all reports and will take action including temporary or permanent bans.
Does Milemates run background checks?
Not during our current beta. Every account is phone-verified and real-name required, but we do not run criminal background checks at this time. Use the in-app safety tools (ratings, live tracking, emergency share) and trust your judgment.

Managing your account

How do I change my profile photo or name?
Go to your Profile tab → tap "Edit profile." You can update your name, photo, and home city at any time.
I didn't receive my OTP — what do I do?
Tap "Resend code" on the verification screen. Make sure you entered the correct phone number with country code (+1 for US, +91 for India, etc.). If it still doesn't arrive after a minute, email us and we'll help.
How do I turn off notifications?
Go to your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → Milemates → toggle off. You can also adjust notification preferences from the Milemates app Account screen.

How to delete your account

Go to the Account screen in the app → scroll to the bottom → tap "Delete my account." All your personal data will be permanently removed within 30 days. This action cannot be undone.
